As beautiful as wedding ceremonies are, there is a daunting side to it. These ceremonies can be pretty tricky to plan, from trying to breathe life into your childhood expectations to trying to please all your guests.

According to a Zola survey, 96% of couples found planning their wedding stressful and 40% of couples said it was EXTREMELY stressful. Another study found that 71% of newly engaged couples considered weddings more nerve-wracking than other major life events.

It also doesn’t help that they are costly too. Most couples spend thousands of dollars for one day of celebration. The amount a wedding costs usually depends on its size and the quality of activities.

To sum it up, weddings can be a lot of pressure for the couple. And it's even crazier when the biggest challenge is coming from their loved ones.

We found one couple who might have just hit their breaking point with all the wedding stress. In fact, they're considering wedding in secret just to get away from everything and everyone.

OP shared that she and her fiancé had agreed to do a small wedding to avoid the typical "wedding culture." However, her family had other ideas, and the problem started with numerous cash gifts.

As expected, they were excited about the cash gifts, but soon realized it came with demands. OP and her fiancé then told the family that they would rather make refunds to everyone than meet their excessive demands.

Unfortunately, their message wasn’t well received, and many people got upset, with some threatening not to attend the wedding. This led them to ask the AITA question.

Weddings are adorable, but we can’t say the same about the family drama that comes with them.

From the look of things, a majority of people are on the couple's side, but there is still criticism over the wording of their statement.

Join the conversation. Do you think the couple made the right decision to refund family members or do you think they could have handled things more diplomatically?
