Vegan Mom Reveals To Her Son That His Grandma Eats “Cows”, Now The Family Is Accusing Her Of Making MIL Appear As An Animal Killer

The terrain of dietary choices often becomes a battlefield within families, especially when it involves starkly contrasting beliefs like veganism and meat-eating. Such a scenario played out in a recent Reddit post, which highlights the tension between a vegan couple and their non-vegan family members.

Our narrator (OP) explained that she and her partner have been vegan for years and have a 4-year-old son, whom they have raised with the same dietary restrictions. Despite their strong vegan beliefs, the couple have made it clear that they are willing to give their son autonomy to choose his path when he comes of age in the future.

Interestingly, the rest of the family are avid meat-eaters whom OP has described as "less accommodating" to their vegan lifestyle. Regardless, OP and her partner have tried to avoid any confrontation even tho they have felt bruised on different occasions during family gatherings.

Recently, an incident at a family BBQ popped up, which seems to have escalated beyond what anyone expected. Apparently, OP's 4-year-old son was offered a bite of his grandmother's beef burger during the gathering, to which he inquired about the content of the burger.

MIL explained to the little champ that he was looking at a sumptuous beef burger that was sure to tickle his taste buds. But before the boy could take a bite, OP cut in, explaining that "beef" was another name for "cow."

At this point, the boy was spooked and declined to partake in the burger fest. While OP didn't see anything damning about her comment, her FIL was furious and accused her of making MIL appear as an "animal killer."

OP's FIL has since demanded an apology, but she and her partner are adamant that everyone is taking things too far. And while her BIL is on her side, he still thinks that OP could have been more careful about her choice of words in that situation.

A majority of Redditors rallied behind OP in this matter. They perceive no fault in the OP's candidness and echo the sentiment that the boy should be informed about what he is being offered.

A few commenters also accused MIL of trying to obscure the truth to coax the child into consuming meat, which the community largely deems unfair.
