Weddings are great occasions to celebrate the new chapter in life with friends and family and even strengthen some bonds. It's the biggest day for the newlywed couple, as well as for their closest family members.
So, while a couple plans their perfect wedding, they also need to consider their closest family members' needs. Recently, a Reddit user shared her unpleasant story about her brother's wedding and asked Redditors if it would be wrong if she just skipped it.
The OP said she has always had a distant relationship with her ten-year-old elder brother due to their age difference. But for the last two years, she's been involved in the wedding preparations of her brother Tom and his fiancée, Sarah.
Although she believed her invitation to be a bridesmaid was out of obligation, she fully embraced the role, spending thousands on events and recently purchasing an $800 dress. However, after Sarah became friends with her brother's wife, Becky, she decided to replace the OP with Becky as a bridesmaid.
The OP was disappointed but didn't make a big deal of it and went to her brother's house to pick up the dress and return it. Then Sarah said she hoped Becky could wear it because of their similar sizes.
The OP said she was okay with it, but they would have to pay her the $800. It led them to an unpleasant discussion because Sarah expected her to lend her dress to Becky.
Her brother and Sarah even tried to compromise with her and offered her to be "the assistant flower girl" and $250 for the dress. But that offended the OP, so she refused, returned the bridesmaid dress, and got a full refund.
Shortly after, a coworker offered the OP a discounted trip to Miami that coincides with the wedding. Now, the OP is considering not attending her brother's wedding and taking a trip to Miami.

As for the wedding, everyone advised the OP to go to Miami instead of her brother's wedding.
