Art, unquestionably, comes in many forms, and that includes the eccentric houses, buildings, or just about any kind of architectural product that you come across while examining the things around you. There are houses designed to look upside down or shaped like a shoe, and while that may look like a somewhat weird and awkward place to live in, you would be surprised at the number of people who actually live in bizarre, misshapen houses—especially in Belgium.
When you think of Belgium, you would most likely picture the thousands of castles that are littered all over the country. In fact, there are about 3000 of them!
However, when you look far beyond that fact, you would actually see that there are a lot of weird and eccentric buildings here, and most of them are actual homes—not just tourist attractions. Be warned, though, because some of the houses that you are about to see are so repulsively ugly they almost look good!
A certain individual by the name of Hannes Coudenys started a blog called Ugly Belgian Houses, after years and years of being annoyed with the chaotic house designs he sees every day while traveling back and forth from his home and school. The idea was born when one day, he decided to take a photo of a peculiar house that looked like it was split into two contrasting styles, one side was gray urban-inspired, and the other was the facade of a brick cottage.
He posted the photo online and captioned it "ugly Belgian houses", and that's when the trend started. Ugly Belgian Houses turned into a blog, and then into a book.
Now, Ugly Belgian Houses has over 160k followers on Instagram and over 130k on Facebook. Just take a look at 30 of their best posts below!
