After Dropping Off A Customer at the Airport, This Uber Driver Robs Their House

Uber is a ride sharing application founded in 2009 in California. Since being founded, it has slowly dominated the market around the world and (due to the significant price difference and the convenience of Uber and other ride sharing apps) has caused a decrease in how many people use traditional taxi services.

In most cases, the use of these ride sharing services have been harmless and as mentioned convenient for getting around but as one rider found out, maybe we should be more careful with these services in terms of who we let drive us around or give our home addresses to.

The passenger in question

Uber driver, Jackie Gordon Wilson thought he had hit the theft jackpot when dropping off a passenger to the airport. What he overlooked was that the passenger had a security system installed. As soon as the security system went off, Wilson fled the scene. When the police arrived the scene they noticed that a nearby house was ransacked. It looked like the thief was going to get away with it until the homeowners uploaded footage from their security systems.

Shortly after this, many people identified Wilson. It turns out he had frequently dropped off people in the area to the the airport. When the police arrived at the home of the 38 year old driver, the evidence against himself seemingly fell into the laps of the police. Wilson was wearing the same clothes he had been seen wearing on the footage and had items matching those described as missing on his person.

"This case proves the benefit of a home security system, particularly with video. Law enforcement is solving more crimes thanks to surveillance cameras and license plate reader systems."

Wilson was booked at San Mateo County jail for both theft and attempted theft. Other cases related to Wilson are still being investigated.

In response to the events, a representative from Uber responded with the following...

"We removed the driver's access to the app as soon as we were made aware of the allegations and stand ready to assist police in their investigation."
