Neglected Cat Sheds 2 Pounds Of Matted Fur After Grooming

Many pet owners neglect their pets, but unfortunately, some pet owners take it to the extreme. Neglecting animals can come in many forms, including a lack of proper food and water, a lack of veterinary care, and a lack of socialization, exercise, and affection.

Pets that are neglected can become malnourished, ill, and even die. One of the most common signs of pet neglect is an animal being kept in a confined space, such as a cage, for too long a period of time.

Similarly, pet owners may not provide their animals with enough food, water, and veterinary care. Animals that are not given proper nutrition or veterinary care can become severely sick or even die.

Hidey, the cat, was sadly neglected and had a bad hair day for years - her fur was so severely matted it looked like dreadlocks. She was found in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with fur so tangled and matted it was up to 6-8 inches long and had a combination of feces and hair.

Hidey was unable to move around much but thankfully has been rescued and has a chance to be happy and comfortable once again. After discovering Hidey concealed in the basement, she was transported to the Animal Rescue League and Wildlife Shelter, which is connected to the Western PA Humane Society.

It took multiple hours to remove all the dreadlocks completely, and then the clumped-up hair was shaved off. Read the full story below:

Neglect can also take the form of not providing the animal with enough affection, exercise, and socialization. Animals need regular interaction, exercise, and love in order to stay healthy.

Without these things, an animal can become lonely, depressed, and even aggressive. Now that Hidey is in a new home, she is adjusting to her surroundings.

After being groomed and having all her matted hair and dreadlocks removed, she's feeling much better. She is now being taken care of by a distant family member of her previous owner and will finally have the chance to live a happy and healthy life.

We are so happy for her.
