Daughter Receives Perfect 18th Birthday Gift; A Time Capsule Made By Her Family

If there is a perfect birthday present, this should be the one - a time capsule. Seventeen years ago, on Gracie's first birthday, her mom gathered friends and family members to make her the unique present for her 18th birthday.

Her mom brought a time capsule and asked everyone to fill it with some things that have sentimental value, things like letters, jewelry, money, magazines, and everything they wanted at that moment to gift her seventeen years later.

So, since Gracie's 1st birthday, many people had known about the present, and they all kept it a secret. Even her mom had managed to hide it from her daughter, despite all difficulties she had while frequent relocation, but in the end, she succeeded in her intention.

For the last ten years, the time capsule was hidden in their basement with other boxes because children don't go in there, and it was the perfect place to hide it.

On her birthday, Gracie has invited a few friends to celebrate because she had rehearsal until late that evening, and the party was supposed to be the next day. Her mom, Kim, took the time capsule then and gave it to Gracie, but she asked her to wait until the official birthday party to open it.

“On her birthday, she only had a few of her show choir friends come over because she had rehearsal until late that evening. I had it waiting on the kitchen island for her when she got home.

She asked me why there was a cooler on the island,”, Kim said.

And the idea was amazing.

She took pictures of Gracie opening the time capsule and captured that beautiful moment. Later, she posted it online, and the gift went viral instantly. People were thrilled.

“I figured if I waited for 17 years to be able to tell her about it, I should at least be able to make her anticipate what’s in it for one full day!”, Kim explains why she asked Gracie to wait one whole day to open it.

“In person, she is a quiet, sweet, shy, totally laid back kid. She loves being home, and her dad is her best friend and they share the same slapstick humor.

On the flip side, Gracie is a performer and she is brilliant, fierce, and uninhibited on stage. She’s a skilled dancer and a beautiful singer.

She aspires to be a performer at Walt Disney World after she graduates high school.”, Says Kim about Gracie.

The time capsule was filled with various things, but they all have sentimental value.

Gracie was delighted with the perfect gift.

It was a very significant moment for the whole family.

“Gracie’s favorite things were pictures of her grandparents, jewelry, and, of course, the savings bonds and cash. She said she felt that there were so many people that cared about her that she didn’t even know.

I asked her what she wishes we would have included in the box but didn’t, and she said predictions on what we thought she’d be like at 18 would have been fun.”, says Kim.

In the time capsule between the others were letters from her great-grandparents and great-great aunts who are no longer alive, and they made many family members cry.

“Her friends were just as excited for her and asked for updates when she opened it. We had a small gathering of her grandparents and a few aunts and cousins the next day and they were there to witness her open the time capsule.”, says Kim.
