Woman Sues In-Laws After They Switch Out Her Dog For One That Behaves Better
Would you trade your child for one that behaves better?

For many dog parents, their dogs aren't just their companions or a creature they can parade around to show off to other people. To them, their dogs are precious parts of their family that can never be replaced.
And much like their real family, they'd immediately know if the dog in front of them is their dog or a dog they've never met before in their life. Not only would they be able to easily identify the marks, colorings, or unique features of their pets but they'd also notice something strange with their bond.
They'd just know their dogs from nose to tail much like Redditor notmypuppy who almost lost her pup after leaving her behind with her in-laws. Fortunately, she was able to quickly determine that the dog she was coming back to isn't really her dog.
Unfortunately, things after that weren't so easy and she even gets into drama with the in-laws that end up with her suing them. And while suing someone you could consider family over a dog might seem ridiculous, it won't seem that way once you read the whole story.
The whole situation also has other Redditors drawn to different sides but before that, here's what happened.
OP asks:

Puca and her owner really had some history between them

Sadly, OP didn't know that she won't be seeing her pup for quite a while after her trip because of her in-laws' decision

Now that their original dog is back, however, they're not sure what to do with the lawsuit

The journey between Puca and her owner has been a wild one and surely enough, the in-laws were in the wrong for what they did.
First off, they swapped out Puca without asking her owner and just because they didn't want to work with her. Second, they probably wouldn't have admitted anything if OP didn't push out the truth from them.
In the comments section, plenty of people are siding with OP. Some are telling her to continue the lawsuit while others are questioning why they couldn't just have made the other dog work.
Here are some of the best comments.
1. OP has very legal grounds to sue her in-laws for what they did

2. At least there's a silver lining to come out from this horrible situation

3. There will be plenty of consequences for the case if OP does continue it

4. After what they did, it would be hard to trust OP's in-laws again

5. OP's in-laws had no right to sell Puca just because she didn't behave the way they would have liked her to

6. At least her boyfriend understands her side as well as his other family members

7.The lengths those people would go to just to not be inconvenienced is terrifying

8. This seems like some solid advice

9. Two is better than one in this case

10. OP's boyfriend knows that what his parents did was just plain wrong

11. Those people need to realize that they can't just do as they please

12. They should realize that what they did was totally not okay and has consequences

13. There were far better options than trading the dog for a more well-behaved one

14. It was the cops who recommended they sue

15. If they could, they'd probably trade the child for a more behaved one

16. Some say being the bigger person would be better

17. Dogs have a huge effect on the lives of their owners and no one can say otherwise

18. Those people are the kinds of people you can't trust a pen with

19. The reasoning that they're family just won't ensure instant forgiveness

20. They're horrible human beings for doing that and they need to learn their place

Hopefully, OP, her boyfriend, and their beloved Puca are recovering from the emotional rollercoaster they've been through. And hopefully, the in-laws learn a valuable lesson from all this.
As for the other dog, it has been rehomed to a dear friend of OP and is getting all the love and treats in the world that it deserves.
