Creepy stories that are based on true events are everything.
The film 'Veronica' is a horror film that originated in Spain and is about a girl who used an Ouija board and becomes deeply possessed. The film is based on true events and when we say true events, we really mean true events. This stuff actually happened! The film tells the story of Estefania Gutierrez Lazaro's mysterious death in 1990.
She was a teenage girl, living in Madrid, who had a typical interest in all things occult and then, unfortunately, became possessed by a demon. What actually happened to her is highly speculated and her family attests her death to the Ouija board and believes that something was conjured from the other side.
Her interest in the occult ended up taking her life. So totally not worth it.
Her parents noted that directly after the seance, she began to hallucinate horribly. She kept seeing bizarre figures and suffering from seizures regularly, during which she would bark at her siblings. Yes. That's right. She would literally bark at her siblings.
Her parents rushed her to many doctors and specialists to find out exactly what was wrong with her. All of the doctors mentioned that they didn't think she had any mental problems but there was definitely something very, very wrong with her.
Like most movies, the story of the actual events could not be farther than what is portrayed in the movie. For example, in the film, the police seem to get involved right away but in reality, it took police over a year to become directly involved in the situation. The family did not get ahold of the authorities until after she had passed away and the cops did find a series of spooky things within the apartment where the girl lived.
After suffering for roughly a year from those mysterious seizures, she passed away in her bed late at night. Her parents obviously have no idea what exactly happened to her but they do know that the supernatural was involved in some way.
The director of the film, Paco Plaza, noted that the reason he decided to make the film was due to the popularity of the story in Spain. As a child, he heard the story many times as it became a type of "urban legend" if you will. In an interview, he said, "In Spain, it’s very popular. Because it is, as we say in the film, the only time a police officer has said he has witnessed something paranormal, and it’s written in a report with an official police stamp."
After Gutierrez's death, her family began to notice that they were being followed by 'shadow people'. Even more disturbing, she mentioned, while alive, that she could not break free from the shadows of people that were following her around and haunting her. Her mother notes that one of these 'shadows' attacked her while she was sleeping by grabbing at her hands and legs.
In addition to all of these horrible elements of her story, the apartment that she died in was found to be completely destroyed. The posters in her room had claw marks all over them and there was a crucifix lying in the middle of the floor. Her parents claimed that if you walked into the room, you were almost pushed by a force that was not able to be seen.
After her seance, it is noted that a strange, white smoke appeared and after inhaling it, Gutierrez fell into one of her seizures.
The film 'Veronica' is on Netflix and is being labeled as the scariest movie ever.
Watch it if you dare.
