Yes, you read right, and you're welcome to today's story, which is all about knives. But before then, you probably believed you were done cleaning dishes by hand when you purchased your dishwasher, didn't you?
Wait a minute - you shouldn't or can't put anything in the dishwasher, including the knife that you presumably use every single day in the kitchen. It's expensive and valuable, and it's slowly being destroyed by your dishwasher.
Good knives are the sparkling (steel) stars of meal preparation since they are the kitchen's engines for slicing, dicing, chopping, and, of course, cutting. While it may be alluring to simply toss the blades in the dishwasher, push a button, and wait for the heat cycle to do its magic, this is not the best way to maintain the sharpness of your knives.
Knives shouldn't be put in the dishwasher, especially good chef knives. A trip to the dishwasher can eventually render a sharp knife worthless.
Knives can sustain damage, become dull, or deteriorate much more quickly in the dishwasher than they should, and the original poster of today's story knew this. She was gifted a $300 knife set by a family member, which is not dishwasher safe and needs to be washed and hand dried shortly after use.
Her two roommates, however, consistently put them in the dishwasher. The OP intends to tell them to stop using her knives, but then she wants a second opinion.

Reddit/goatthedistanceThis Redditor has a smart piece of advice to give to the OP
Reddit/goatthedistanceKitchen knives come in a variety of varieties, and it's so simple to toss them in the cutlery basket of your dishwasher along with the rest of the utensils. But there are numerous reasons why this is a horrible idea.
The OP won’t be an AH for removing her personal belongings from the kitchen and dictating who may or may not use them.
