Americans are always under the impression that they're number one in everything, but that's not necessarily true. When it comes to education, America has a lot of catching up to do. The American education system is quite broken and could definitely use a lot of improvement.
In case you didn't know, American students actually rank 28th in math and science scores according to the Organization for Economic Cooperation.
Home Snacks made a map of the United States where they compared each state with a different foreign country that happens to have similar education levels. The data is based on the United Nations Development Program index.
Here's what the full map looks like:
The Northeast and Midwest have similar educational levels as European countries.
However, the Southeast is quite similar to Central America and Africa.
The Northwest is actually quite diverse.
The Southwest is also has a lot of diversity.
The United States is huge, so it's perfectly normal if states have different educational levels. That's one of the cons of having such a humongous and diverse country.
