For over 9,000 years, sled dogs have played a very important role in providing transportation in Arctic areas until semi-trailer trucks, snowmobiles, and airplanes were introduced in the 20th century. If it wasn't for them, hauling supplies would've been an impossible task since a lot of areas were inaccessible by other methods.

In case you didn't know, sled dogs are actually taken care of better than the other typical dogs, their owners care a great deal about them and their health. Sled dogs are only allowed to run when they're completely healthy and when they consent to it.
