Should she exclude her sister from a trip to Disney World after years of strained relationship?
A single mother, sorrymissjackson33, shared a post on the "AITA" subreddit about a trip she is planning to Disney World with her 9-year-old daughter. Sorrymissjackson33 disclosed that she has been scrimping and saving for the trip for a long time because she wants to give her daughter a vacation that she can remember fondly.
While she admits that the trip has taken her a long time to plan, she says the look on her daughter's face when she tells her about it would make it worthwhile. Sorrymissjackson33 also revealed that her relationship with her sister had been strained since she welcomed her daughter.
According to sorrymissjackson33, her sister is not interested in children and refuses to help out with her daughter, even for something as simple as watching her so she could take a shower. In 2020, when sorrymissjackson33's appendix ruptured, she had to take her daughter to the ER because her sister refused to watch her.
Since then, sorrymissjackson33 said she has been distancing herself from her sister. Despite this, her sister found out about the Disney trip and has been asking to come along, claiming that it would be a fun bonding experience for "all us girls."
Sorrymissjackson33 has been saying no because she doesn't want her sister to ruin the trip for her and her daughter. However, sorrymissjackson33's mother thinks that this is her sister trying to extend an olive branch, but sorrymissjackson33 is unsure.
She wants to know if she is being an a-hole for not inviting her sister on this trip. Here's how the AITA community responded.
Relationships are a two-way street, and they cannot be built or maintained on one person's terms alone. Building a meaningful and lasting connection requires putting in the effort to maintain it.
This means being there for the person in good times and bad and respecting their boundaries. It is important not to expect others to drop everything just because you want to spend time with them.
