Family Put Up A Sign Encouraging People To Be Silly And Then Filmed The Evidence

Proof that wholesome, humorous fun during social distancing is entirely possible

Social distancing, total country, state, and jurisdictional lock-downs, and quarantine have had a lot of side effects and consequences for the billions of people globally trying desperately to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus. In many communities around the world people are still encouraged to stay active and go out for walks, as long as they continue to practice social distancing. In those communities, lots of people have gotten creative to make the most of their time and bring smiles to the faces of their neighbors.

Some communities have seen a boom in chalk art, others are painting rocks, some are decorating windows and garages! For the community in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan it's been Silly Walks. Yep, you read that right! The family, inspired by a Monty Python sketch, put out a sign that read:

"You have now entered the jurisdiction of silly walks. Commence silly walking immediately." Finer print reads: "Follow @Yorkshire_Silly_Walks for highlights. Your walk may be posted! We’re all in this together so let’s have some fun while we can! (Don’t know how to silly walk? Google Monty Python Ministry of Silly Walks for inspiration.)"

Liz, the person behind the magic, created an Instagram account to help her neighbors and anyone who needs a smile keep up with the daily shenanigans.

In an interview with Bored Panda, Liz said:

"My neighbors seem to love it. Some of them walk by more than once a day and make sure to silly walk."

Liz also said:

"My husband and I are essential workers so we are fortunate. I have more time on my hands to do stuff because we aren’t dealing with two full time employees at work all day, school, homework, extracurriculars and the general craziness of life."

Yorkshire Silly Walks continues to grow in popularity and several other communities in the US have put up their own signs, inspired by Liz's fantastically silly idea.
