We all know what the pandemic has brought to almost everyone—the need to find a new hobby to keep ourselves occupied while we were dying from boredom when the world was put to a standstill. Some of us tried to haul watercolors and paintbrushes to try art, some finally decided to learn cooking, while some, well... dove into the wonderful world of plantcore.
When you think of a person getting interested in taking plants, you would initially assume that it's a woman, right? Well, in this case, a 16-year-old boy was actually the one who got himself weaved into the craft of caring for plants—but let's just say it didn't bode well with his dad who saw the hobby as something that only girls and women do.
You would think the dad would have just carelessly thrown some snide remark at his own son, but no, he was so bothered by the new hobby that he just had to throw all the poor plants away. All those time and effort that the teenage boy spent taking care of the plants were literally just thrown away, too—and now, he's giving his dad the silent treatment, and didn't even talk to him on his birthday.
The sitch was posted on Reddit, and as expected, many people had a lot to say...
A 16-year-old boy posted a sticky situation he had with his dad on Reddit—apparently, he's been giving him the silent treatment after his plants got thrown away.
Smoobs (not the actual image)The plants came from his aunt that came all the way from Wyoming, and he tried his hand at planting and taking care of them. He seemingly fell in love with planting, and found himself with a new hobby to keep himself occupied while undergoing online class.
He liked it so much, he even went the extra mile in taking care of them.

He had a favorite peace lily, and it made himself feel good knowing that he was the one taking care of it.

OP was disheartened, and he never even got the rightful apology he deserved.
He stopped talking to his dad, and proceeded to give him the silent treatment even when he celebrated his birthday.
Alan Stanton (not the actual image)He even got angrier with all the silent treatment OP has been giving him. His mom says he's taking it too far because it's his dad's birthday, yet he's not making any move to approach or even just greet him.
u/threwmyplantsOP's mom thinks he's already being rude by doing so.
What do you think?
u/threwmyplantsTake a look at what people have to say:
OakleyOrignals (not the actual image)Some parents don't really know the importance of accountability.
We definitely hope OP gets to have his own garden soon!
The dad is even trying to sweep it off by pretending everything is fine and just asking OP some questions.
What a cool aunt!
We can definitely see OP's passion with planting.
What's wrong with a boy wanting to take care of plants, anyway?
A lot of underlying misogyny here, too!
Good riddance.
We just hope OP's parents would get to learn what's wrong with what they did, too.
Truly just a lot of miscommunication here.
Activities have no gender!
We would like to give OP a hug, too!
Talent wasted because of an insecure dad. Tragic.
As years go by, we truly hope that more and more people become a lot more accepting of these things—like one of the commenters said: activities have no gender. So what if a teenage boy wants to take care of plants; that does not make him less of a man at all!
