Finding out that the adults you looked up to as a child are terrible people is a sobering experience. A 24-year-old saw the true colors of her mom's friends when they began to pester her about her lack of a boyfriend.

Jane and Joe relentlessly made comments once they found out that OP has never had a boyfriend. They started by suggesting locations for OP to meet potential suitors.

They advised her to apply for a job because it would be teeming with men to ask her out. OP evaded the suggestion by thanking them and clarifying that she was not looking to date anyone.

She brushed it off when Joe pushed and said that OP should start dating before it's too late. OP confided to her parents about what their friends said.

She said she did not like their comments as they made her uncomfortable. Her parents agreed the comments were strange and asked OP not to overthink.

The topic of OP's relationship status was brought up again when Jane and Joe dropped by. OP jokingly said that two men asked her out but she rejected them after they made her uncomfortable.

Jane protested and said that OP should have at least gone on a date because the opportunity might not come again. OP snapped and told Jane she would rather be single than date people who made her uncomfortable.

When Jane & Joe visited the following week, OP's parents pulled them aside to discuss what they have been doing and the duo agreed to stop

That didn't stop Joe from making OP uncomfortable again and saying that he will ask her boyfriend to set her back to normal

It all came to a head when OP's parents hosted a party

Jane & Joe bought their unsolicited opinions when they showed up. OP's parents promised that they will remind the two about OP's boundaries and reassured OP that she is free to leave if they make her uncomfortable.

Jane started by wondering about OP's sad life and predicting she will die alone. OP was about to leave when Joe said how pathetic it is that OP has no boyfriend.

OP was done listening to them and faced Joe as she loudly put them in their place. OP exclaimed that Jane & Joe must be interested in her since they keep bringing up her relationship status.

That this must be the reason why they kept disrespecting her. She made it clear that she has no interest in them because of how creepy they are for acting this way since they've known her since she was a child.

OP's parents handled this poorly. They were more concerned about Jane's & Joe's feelings over their own daughter's boundaries.

They definitely know what they have been doing and saying to OP were wrong, hence their early exit

Their shame could have been avoided if they only listened to OP when she asked them nicely

OP tried to be reasonable with them, talked to them politely, had her parents reinforce her boundaries, but Jane and Joe refused to listen. At that point, they knew the risk.

An eye for an eye and all that. OP is owed a few more humiliating comments before they're even.

I really don't understand why OP's parents are so determined to lay all the blame on her feet. She never asked Jane or Joe for dating advice, yet they felt the need to bring up her private business every chance they got.

OP should probably stop hanging out around her parents' friends because they obviously do not respect her. She was unanimously voted not the a**hole by Redditors and should rest easy knowing that.
