Senior Dog Who Has Spent 9 Years Fending For Herself In A Junkyard Is Finally Rescued
When dogs reach the age of seven, they are already considered senior dogs and would be requiring more constant care and love because they are already aging and approaching the end of their lifeline. Old dogs often suffer from deteriorating eyesight and hearing, and they will rarely have the energy to actually play like they used to anymore.

These older dogs are also much more prone to experiencing stress but they won't be able to handle them well, especially when they have nothing or no one to rely on. They will have much more visible separation anxiety and strange unfamiliar noises would have them more agitated than usual.
This is why it is deeply important that dogs would have a family that's guaranteed to care for and love them unconditionally especially when they hit old age and aren't the energetic puppies they were once before anymore. Their joints would be a lot more sensitive, they would get cold easily, and they tend to get anxious with absolutely anything in their vicinity.
That being said, it's truly a cruel thing to know that some dogs, especially the older ones, are just left alone to fend for themselves—abandoned by their past owners who didn't even have the heart to ensure that they would be cared for in at least a shelter. A similar situation has happened to this particular dog...
Meet Pheenie.
Pheenie (real name: Josephine), has been rescued by Hope For Paws after a woman named Persephone Harrington reported that there was a homeless canine who is already in its senior age and was living in a delivery container in a junkyard.
Rescuers have soon arrived and looked for the dog living in the container, surrounded by trash.
Locals have reported that the dog has been abandoned nine years ago when its proprietor left them behind after being deported. She has since then been fending for herself in the junkyard and on the streets—confused as to where her owner has left to.
While living on the streets, Pheenie has also been hit by a truck at some point, and because no one was caring for her, she had received no clinical attention. The accident made her eye drop.
People around have actually helped in feeding her, although not regularly. But the dog knows she deserves better than that, given her age.
Pheenie has been wishing for a loving home that could take her in since she is already of old age. The rescuers managed to save Pheenie, without giving her any other reason to be in distress.
Once they got close to the dog, they noticed the signs of aging, and they found out that almost all of her teeth are already rotting and broken.
Pheenie was then transported to CARES, where she received proper clinical care and basic hygiene. The vets discovered that she has an infection in her spinal cord, as well as UTI and a dental disease.
She also has some tumors in her mammary glands, which is quite common for the unspayed dogs to acquire. The dog had a good slumber after having taken a bath—and it seemed like her first good sleep for the past nine years.

The L.A. Animal Rescue has stepped up to foster Pheenie and provide her a life full of the relaxation she deserves. She is now enjoying her days by going out for a walk, playing outside, enjoying the snow, and overall just having a good time.
