Dogs, while being one of the most loved animals in the world, are also the ones that commonly experience mistreatment and abuse. When we think of animal cruelty, we often picture out people using them as punching bags as direct violence is the most obvious form of it, but animal neglect is actually one of the more common types of abuse that most dogs experience nowadays.

Dogs love interacting with people and other animals, and when they don't get enough social interaction for a long period of time, it truly affects their mental health. It is unnatural for them to live so secluded, cornered, and chained, and there is no single reason in the world that supports that they deserve this kind of unfortunate life.

Isolating them from social interactions poses a lot of effects such as boredom, anxiety, and aggression. Studies show that chained and isolated dogs are more likely to bite anyone in their vicinity than those who are free to roam around.

It is never right to deprive them of the social interactions they need in their life, and it is not an ideal thing to chain them up and neglect all their other needs besides water and food. It certainly is a heartbreaking situation that we would never wish upon these innocent little things.

But that is exactly what this particular dog experienced most of her life. Check out her sad story below!

The dog was found when rescuers with the Let's Adopt International received a call about a dog that has been left tied to a chain for years.

The dog in question wasn't even given a proper name, and spent majority of her life chained and surrounded by work equipment and machinery. She was already a senior dog, and being in this kind of environment was not healthy and safe for her mental and physical health.

It was a fortunate thing that the rescuers were able to get the dog safely and brought her to a vet so that she could be properly groomed and her health can be checked. She had an incredibly matted fur, and the checkup led them to find out that she had several cancerous tumors, as said by the press release of the rescue organization.

One of the tumors was remove and the rescuers gave her a name: Maria.

They speculated that Maria only had six to seven months left because of her cancer, but they were set to ensure that she will be given a great second chance at life even if she's already running out of time.

Most organizations would have probably euthanized Maria, with all the tumors she had.

Fortunately enough, with their kind hearts, they let her have the best last few months of her life and made her get the sweet taste of freedom even in her old age.

Maria then went on to live with her foster mom, Linda, together with her other dogs.

Linda ensured that Maria would experience what life is like with a family that loves and cares for her.

Maria truly loved the second chance of life she had, and bonded with Linda and her siblings.

She even surpassed her health and life expectations because she lived a full 18 months! It was truly the best last 18 months of her life and she passed away in peace, free of struggles, pain, and isolation months before her death.

It's always a sad thing to hear that there are still a lot of other animals like Maria that are suffering because they are being neglected and ignored. Dogs are one of the purest animals that have ever graced this world, and it is supposed to be our duty to protect them at all costs.

After all, they are truly man's best friends. Share Maria's story with your family and friends!
