Dogs are pretty straightforward. Realistically, dogs cannot hide emotions, and you always know what you are dealing with.
Even compared to other family pets, dogs really are the next level. A dog's mood seems to spread and affect the people around them. When your dog is happy – you are extremely happy, and your dog will certainly make your day…
But when our dogs are sad… it is just heartbreaking. Big Poppa is a 3-year-old English bulldog from Atlanta, Georgia, and his lock down blues made people on the internet incredibly sad.
Big Poppa’s owner Rashida Ellis, a television costume creator, recently shared a photo of the sweet pup watching down at a group of kids playing basketball from their 6th-floor terrace with a sad look on his face and because we just can't have our dogs going around being sad, it seems like the whole world has responded to this bulldog's depression with empathy.
The poor dog tried to get the kids’ attention but couldn’t because he is too far away, and he can’t meet people because of the social distancing. And that is a crying shame because he loves playing with kids, people, and their pets.
This is Big Poppa
Rashida EllisA picture of Big Poppa being disappointed he couldn’t go outdoors and play attracted a lot of attention.
Rashida Ellis“[The sadness] started during the lockdown because Pop would usually go outside and play with some of the children in the courtyard every day and also multiple people would pet him when we walk,” explained Ellis. “Ever since the lockdown, none of this happens and he tries to get their attention from the patio, but ends up defeated.”
She also said that the lockdown has made Big Poppa a little lethargic and he naps much more than he used to. It is clearly visible that he is not happy.
This sad face made the internet melt, and the people responded with lots of love for Big Poppa.
Rashida EllisRashida Ellis, the dog’s owner, says that he’s a very cheerful and friendly dog, so he misses the contact with people and animals.
Rashida EllisThe picture of sad pooch went viral in a heartbeat. Everyone was empathizing with Big Poppa and sending him piles of love, which was very surprising for leaving Ellis quite surprised: “I was very surprised, I woke up like ‘what has happened?’ It makes me feel good that Poppa is receiving so much love. I love sharing him with the world.”
In a day, Ellis’ tweet accumulated over 650,000 likes with 72,500 retweets. The photo on Big Poppa’s Instagram account got 21,000 likes and almost a thousand comments.
The dog was cheered up eventually, but he unquestionably can’t wait for quarantine to be over
Rashida EllisLuckily, Pop is feeling a lot better now. Ellis is always trying to cheer him up: “I sing songs and dance. We take extra walks. I also tell him to come sit with me and feed him treats. He likes to be fed!”
“He loves Kong dog toys that are filled with peanut butter and he loves oversized childrens’ stuffed animals. That’s his favorite. He also is a huge fan of doggy ice cream.”
