Roommates Argue Over Whose Cat Brought Fleas Into Their Apartment

What would you do if your roommate tried to make you give up a beloved pet? It's a fair assumption that you certainly wouldn't give it up without a fight, right?

Well, one Reddit user recently shared a story about this exact problem in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit. The 20-year-old explained that he had just moved into a new apartment, and before doing so, he asked his new roommate if it would be okay for him to bring his cat with him.

The roommate agreed, so the OP and his cat moved in. The Redditor explained that his roommate also had a cat, but the two cats didn't get along, so they made sure to keep them separate.

Not long after moving in, the OP received a text from his roommate saying that he had found fleas in the apartment and he would need to treat his cat immediately. The Redditor agreed and began giving his cat flea treatments straight away.

However, soon after that, the roommate accused the OP's cat of giving his cat fleas. He said the Redditor would now have to treat both cats to fix the problem.

But the OP found no evidence of his cat ever having fleas, so he asked his roommate to consider that it might be his cat that brought the fleas into the apartment. Well, that didn't go over well.

The roommate said the OP would have to get rid of his cat because she was "causing problems." Naturally, the Redditor said there was no way he would be getting rid of the cat.

He agreed to compromise and take the cat to his parent's house for a short time until the flea situation was settled. However, the roommate wouldn't have it and continued to tell the OP to get rid of his cat.

Well, the situation just got worse from there, and the argument continued. Keep scrolling to find out what the Reddit community had to say about it.

What's your take on this situation? Do you think the OP is in the wrong here or is the roommate out of line?

Either way, we hope that neither cat has fleas and everyone can learn to get along. Fleas can be tricky to get rid of, and pets aren't always the ones to blame.
