Yes, racial profiling exists. When law enforcement subjects people to stops, in-depth searches, identity checks, and investigations—or decides that someone is engaging in criminal activity—they are using generalizations based on race, color, descent, or national or ethnic origin rather than objective evidence or individual behavior.
This type of practice is known as racial profiling and discriminatory decisions are made as a result of racial profiling. A number of fundamental principles and rights protected by international human rights law are broken by the practice of racial profiling.
Nondiscrimination, equality before the law, and equal protection under the law are a few of them. Racial profiling violates the fundamental rule of law premise that a person's behavior, not their ethnicity, race, or national origin, should be taken into account when making decisions about them.
The OP of today's story is about racial profiling, but she believes she's innocent of that. The thing is, the OP noticed that her roommate was wearing a bracelet she was looking for the other day.
She asked her about it, and she said that her mother gave it to her. The bracelet was from Japan, and it was from a tiny shop, so no, the OP was sure it couldn't be bought through the internet.
The OP pushed further, but boom, her roommate broke down and accused the OP of racially profiling her. Read the entire story for yourself below.
The OP writes

Reddit/Shit--TierOP's roommate finally burst into tears and said she was racially profiling her and being racist
Reddit/Shit--TierTo summarize the whole story:
TLDR; I asked my black roommate if the bracelet she was wearing was mine. (The bracelet could not be bought around here) She burst into tears and called me racist. It's pretty awkward with my other roommates and I'm not sure what I should do at this point and if I really was racist.

Reddit/Shit--TierWould a good friend steal your bracelet?
Reddit/Shit--TierA redditor chirped this in:
Don't accept the race card, simple as that. If you've accurately relayed the story, here's the facts:
- You lost a fairly distinctive bracelet that cannot be easily acquired in your area,
- You searched for the bracelet, and didn't find it,
- Your roommate starts wearing the same bracelet, and cannot explain how they got it.
It's entirely appropriate to ask your roommate where she got the bracelet, and if it's yours. The race card seems like a derailing tactic in this case.
This isn't an innocent mistake

Reddit/Shit--TierThe OP provided an update later on:
Reddit/Shit--TierSome Redditors advised the OP to ask her family to look for the pictures and send them across to her. The OP was also told to deal with this issue as soon as possible if she wanted to get the bracelet back.
