A couple might think about sharing housing for a variety of reasons, including starting a new job in a different city, saving money on rent or being able to purchase a nicer home, and cutting down on time spent traveling to see each other. Or perhaps it's just time to move on to the next stage.
Whatever your motivation, there are certain crucial actions to take before you travel down that road. If you don't yet have the fundamentals of your life in place and are functioning so well that you can also accept responsibility for another person, it's too soon to move in together.
The OP of today's story is the owner of the house, and he rented a room to a guy, but he didn't charge him rent. The agreement was that he would run the errands for the house, shop, and do yard work, among other things.
The OP told this roommate that he was just done living with a couple, and it was miserable, so if he had a girlfriend who would want to move in too, it wouldn't work out. Things were working out, and he actually became probably the OP's best friend.
Then this roommate started dating, and they've been really serious as she's in the OP's house every day. Then came what the OP dreaded: the guy wanted the girlfriend to move, but the OP wouldn't allow it.
If he wanted to live with his girlfriend, he would have to move out.
The OP writes
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditThe OP has lived with a couple two times in the past and both times ended really ugly
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditIt's kinda funny to the OP, but she was talking about how she doesn't cause drama like other girls
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditThe guy probably has it in his head that the OP is trying to get between him and his girlfriend
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditComments came in their hundreds and here a bunch of them
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditIt's the OP's house hence it's his rules
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditThe OP is hiring him to do a job
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditHis GF is not permitted to move in
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditThis redditor points out the harsh reality
I don't know the legality of your issue since I don't know tenant laws, but if I were you I would read up on it and start proceedings to evict your roommate. This may sound harsh but hear me out - he is in a new relationship and sounds very passionate about it. You are now standing in the way of them being able to do what they want and she sounds crazy. I wouldn't be surprised if some shit started going down.
If they want to live together he can work full time and get a small apartment for them.
He is being incredibly entitled
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditI'm not like other girls
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditHe pays no rent so he has no say
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditHe is living there rent free
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditThis is not a friendship worth keeping
Reddit/ialreadyexplaineditLiving with a woman and developing a close bond with her has several advantages. But it's also crucially important to be aware of the numerous hazards and potential problems you can encounter when weighing such a choice.
The OP's roommate has limited options here so it's left to him to make a choice as many Redditors agreed that the OP might be needing a new roommate.
