Amateur "Detective" And Skincare Connoisseur Weighs Her Expensive Facewash To Prove Roommate Was Using It Without Permission
"Nice people weigh things, not so nice people replace with a old bottle with something like nair."

The only time I remember applying sunscreen as a kid was when we went to the beach. To little me, it was an annoying hurdle I had to go through before I built my sand castles and chased hermit crabs — my attitude towards sunscreen drastically changed.
As an adult, I now panic when I forget to wear sunscreen before I leave the house in the morning. In recent years, when beauty vlogging slash influencing became a thing, the importance of a good skincare routine and sunscreen was drilled into our heads like a mantra.
The marathon for achieving the most perfect and luminescent skin began for a lot of us. It's an expensive trial and error process but once you find your "holy grail" products, you'll never look back.
For this OP who has sensitive skin, his skincare must-have is an expensive and hard-to-find, non-prescription face wash. He noticed in the past few months that his face wash was depleting a lot faster.
His roommates know about his special face wash because he asked them to keep an eye out for it when its delivery was delayed. He also observed that the one roommate he shares a bathroom with hasn't replaced her own face wash for weeks.
OP suspects she has been sneakily using his face wash and he was determined to find out if he was right

Before leaving for a two-week vacation, he weighed his face wash bottle — it weighed 8.3 oz but when he got home it was only 6.9 oz

With the numbers to support his suspicions, OP confronted his roommate
He politely asked her if she was using his special face wash and if she was, she has to stop. She denied OP's claims but OP was tired of her lying.
He told her he weighed the bottle before he left and he knows 1.4 oz of it was missing. Caught in a lie of her own making, his roommate turned beet red.
She told their other roommates that OP is a psycho, controlling a**hole for weighing his face wash bottle. She said normal people don't do those things because using someone else's face wash is typical & not a big deal.

To spell it out, OP weighed the bottle after putting some in a travel bottle he used while he was away

It would be inconvenient if OP kept his face wash in his room, plus he wanted to be sure that his roommate was indeed using the product

One commenter mentioned that leaving the face wash as a trap to catch the roommate in the act was an immature move on OP's part

OP clarified that he did not set her up but he did it to have evidence in case she denies it, which she did

She wasn't upset that she did what she did; she's only mad because she got caught

OP doesn't really want to keep hiding his face wash and it seems like this is the final straw that will push him to move in with his GF once the lease ends

It seems "borrowing" someone else's expensive face products is not uncommon, even for couples

She should have admitted it and apologized but she doubled down because she knows she was wrong

She was ashamed she was caught red handed and lashed out at OP. Calling him an a**hole after stealing from him was her funny way of apologizing.

She even defended her thievery and said it was a common thing to do & not a big deal

She thinks OP weighing the face wash bottle was a bigger offense than her stealing from him. People like her would really do anything but admit they were at fault.

If she really believed it was such a normal thing to do, why deny it in the first place?

Sherlock OP solved the case of his missing facewash and can now live with the knowledge that his roommate is an inconsiderate & dishonest person. Let's hope his next roommate, his GF doesn't think OP's facewash is a communal property or it could cost her their relationship.
