30+ Funny Comics That Will Make You Laugh And Question Our Reality
Amii James is an illustrator and webcomic creator hailing from the UK. She concocts humorous, absurd, and peculiar comics that offer an alternative view of mundane life.
Her illustrations are designed to stir the question "What if?" exposing a more amusing facet of existence. What if a certain saying was interpreted literally? What unforeseen events could occur? What if a situation was viewed from a fresh angle?
By reversing perspectives and adopting a more jovial mindset, she manifests a host of whimsically nonsensical visual narratives that never fail to intrigue and amuse!
Interestingly, she wasn't a fervent fan of traditional old-school comics like those from DC/Marvel. During her undergraduate studies, she naturally gravitated towards crafting concise, comical, and eccentric visual narratives when experimenting with new artistic mediums.
She dabbled in animation, which led to the genesis of the simplistic character seen in her work today, crafted initially to demonstrate a basic 'walk cycle.' In the midst of the lockdown, she found herself engrossed in live streams of animal enclosures from zoos and drawing quick sketches of the animals.
While watching a live stream featuring penguins, she visualized absurd narratives that a penguin might experience in a bizarre parallel universe. She crafted a 4-panel comic based on one of her penguin ideas, which stands as one of her earliest comic creations and is still available at the bottom of her Instagram feed.
Take a look at 30 of her delightfully silly webcomics below, and revel in their quirky charm!

The artist says:
I come from a small town with very limited opportunities or career prospects, which meant that throughout my childhood I hadn’t fathomed making much of myself, let alone through my artwork. This means that I approached my practice without having intentions to impress art critics, but instead to express myself and speak to people like me, normal people, on a human level, poking fun at life and having a laugh.
When you grow up in unfortunate conditions you find value in laughter and imagination, so when my work can relate to someone’s normal life and encourage a smile, it makes me feel good.

As many can empathize, the lockdown ushered in a wave of peculiar thoughts. These short visual narratives evolved into a medium for expressing this strangeness - be it a sarcastic observation on global happenings, a hilariously warped view on the humdrum of everyday life, or a glimpse into the mind of a pet dog, her comics became a resonating mirror of life in all its eccentricity.
