Moving into a new neighborhood is always a little nerve-racking. And coming up with ways to break the ice with the new neighbors can be difficult.
So what happens when you think of a cute idea to introduce yourself to your neighbors, only to have them call you names behind your back? Well, that's exactly what happened to Reddit user u/AFTER_THAT_LION_DUDE, and he shared his story in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit.
The OP explained that he and his wife just moved into a new neighborhood. It's a small town with less than 5,000 people in it.
The couple was told not to expect any trick-or-treaters on Halloween since there are no children in the area. So, the OP and his wife thought it would be a fun idea to get dressed up and go "reverse trick-or-treating" as a way to introduce themselves to their new neighbors.
They put on costumes and went from house to house handing out candy and chatting to the neighbors. They were done by about 8:30 pm, so it wasn't a late night.
But, the next day, the OP's wife overheard a few of the neighbors talking about the "new, weird neighbors" and how they "decided to take up a chunk of everyone's evening." One neighbor even told them they were going to "burn in hell for celebrating a satanic holiday."
With all the negative feedback from the neighbors, now the OP is beginning to wonder if he and his wife are the a**holes here. Keep scrolling to see how people reacted.
