Redditors Help Their Community Member Choose A Book To Read, And It Is Wholesome

I still remember the very first novel I read cover-to-cover. It was The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis, the first book in his The Chronicles of Narnia saga.
I didn't come from a family of voracious readers. To young me, reading was confined to schoolwork and textbooks, which is why the hobby never appealed to me.
Reading The Magician's Nephew completely changed my attitude about reading. Before that, I had no idea words were powerful enough to make me see an entirely different world apart from the one I was in.
Since then, I've visited Narnia, battled for Hogwarts, met Tom Bombadil, and solved crimes alongside Hercule Poirot. Time travel is also possible thanks to books.
You can jump back to a certain point in our history and meet important figures that have long been gone. That is the power of literature.
But like my family, the hobby is not for everyone. It could be because of certain medical issues that make reading difficult, negative experiences with the required reading from class, or it simply doesn't appeal.
Still, it's never too late to pick up the habit as this Redditor proved in their post. It was a rare wholesome Reddit moment where complete strangers helped someone find a love for reading.
The OP asked avid readers to recommend an intermediate book to help them commit to finishing at least one book
u/NatalieCaileenAn English teacher commended OP for trying something they found challenging and gave a few pointers on how to make reading easier
gapzevsThey also said that there is no shame in not finishing a book if you can't get into it and if reading proves to be challenging, audiobooks are also an option
gapzevsMost Young Adult literature are great reads! They are simple enough for a novice reader to understand but challenging in a way that they help improve reading level.
HANGRY_KITTYKATAudiobooks are awesome when you want to read but can't find the time because your chores are piling up. I finished a series thanks to audiobooks!
Cleverusername531OP also got a lot of actual title recommendations based off of the fact that they enjoy stories set in the wilderness
chatmagique2, NatalieCaileenAudiobooks actually make scene-setting easier for some people. Imagining how the world looks is easier when someone narrates it.
wicked719OP can combine traditional reading and audiobooks if they are prone to have a wandering mind. It's more immersive that way.
BouRNsingingRoald Dahl books are a great recommendation for novice and long-time readers alike
shiny22214A year after OP's initial post, they posted a update about their reading journey so far
u/NatalieCaileenIt looks like they are finally enjoying reading thanks to the helpful suggestions of Redditors from a year ago!
u/NatalieCaileenOP even shared a reading milestone they achieved recently and I feel giddy for them!
u/NatalieCaileenReddit is a wholesome space from time to time and OP's post will certainly help someone else dabble in casual reading
u/NatalieCaileenLike a true bibliophile, OP has an ever growing mountain of books they have yet to find the time and energy to tackle. One of us! One of us!
Katarina246The ones who helped OP must feel like proud gurus as they witness them fall in love with reading!
Ironmike11BOP is admirable for trying something that proved to be challenging for them in the past. Reading can be daunting but when you find the right book, there's no way but forward.
ottereggI felt so alone when I was younger since I was the only one in my family who read books for fun. They didn't understand the appeal of spending hours figuring out what happened to the fictional people on those pages.
I remember when my brother asked to borrow one of my books for fun. He has since started his own unread books collection, and I couldn't be prouder — reading OP's post made me feel the same way, and I'm so glad that Reddit was there to support their love for reading.
