Our parents always told us to never trust strangers. And well, we think that advice applies strongly to hitchhikers.
A lot of us just want to show kindness to all these people wandering the dangerous roads alone. It’s basic human decency.
All the crazy stories we hear about the experiences other people have had with them, however, make us hesitate a great deal. And what can we say, it makes sense to do so.
Nobody wants to get murdered or just suddenly vanish in the middle of nowhere in their very own vehicle. Plus, nobody wants to die just because they decided to show just a little bit of kindness.
Redditor u/giraffetooth managed to avoid exactly that when he kicked out a hitchhiker in the middle of the desert. At first though, he was like many of us, unsuspecting and only had good intentions.
He gave one poor guy a chance and all he got was an unnecessary politically charged anger attack. As it turns out though, he’s not the only person to fall into this category.
Upon hearing his story, a lot of other Redditors were eager to share their own hitchhiker experiences. They were also ever-ready to comfort the OP that he shouldn’t feel guilty about his decision to kick his passenger out.
Before anything though, here’s how that story went. Would you do the same thing?
It Was Just Pure Good Intentions From The Start

u/giraffetoothFortunately, he's not the only one with such an experience, and Redditors from all over have come to comfort him over his decision. After all, no one should stand being disrespected in their own vehicle like that.

TotalherenowNot every hitchhiker out there is a maniac just waiting for their next victim. We’re pretty sure at least 90% of those people are simply people who just need some help.
Still though, it’s best to exercise a lot of caution when it comes to picking up strangers. You’ll never know if you’ll be telling a wholesome story or if you’ll be the object of a cautionary tale.
