There's no shortage of horrible bride stories. We think we've seen and heard them all but this bride takes the cake.
The popular subreddit Am I The A**hole (AITAH) was set ablaze when one user shared an interesting story. The query was posted by user BlueRoses95.
The original poster (OP) asked: "AITAH for refusing to remove a piece of jewelry at the request of my friend on her wedding day?" Based on the question, it honestly could go either way.
It's an unspoken social convention that bride's can demand things, sometimes unreasonable things, during their wedding day. Some people took that courtesy as a pass to abuse everyone in their vicinity.
The things brides get away with on their weddings are borderline criminal. What the bride wants the bride gets, right?
In this situation, the bride didn't get exactly what she demanded. The OP was adamant that she wouldn't remove her necklace for the bride and boy was the soon-to-be-mrs angry.
Reading further will clarify certain aspects of the situation and it was pretty clear who was at fault. Reddit users were in agreement that the OP was not at fault here.
That was Reddit's opinion, but you can read for yourself and make your own judgment. Was OP the a**hole or was the bride being a bridezilla?
This is the necklace that almost caused a war.
BlueRoses95The question posted in the subreddit AITAH
BlueRoses95You can read the whole story here:
BlueRoses95The contested necklace was a gift from OP's partner
BlueRoses95And here's the start of the issue with the necklace:
BlueRoses95Basically, OP was invited to the wedding where the only people she's familiar with was the bride's immediate family. The loving fiancé who was supposed to go to the wedding with OP got Covid and decided to stay at home.
OP's fiancé gifted her a necklace during the 5th anniversary of their first date. The gifted jewelry was for OP to wear at the wedding.
When the bride saw OP's necklace on the day of the wedding, she decided it was better than the one she's wearing and demanded OP give it to her. The bridal party agreed that it could be her something borrowed.
The necklace being a gift from her fiancé who couldn't attend, OP was reluctant to part ways with it. She politely informed the bride that she will not lend her the necklace.
The bride was upset and told OP to remove the necklace at least for the pictures because she doesn't want anyone to have better jewelry than her. Again, OP said no because she wants to show her fiancé that she wore it during the wedding.
For the duration of the event, everybody basically ignored OP, including the bride's family. The bride's sister then talked to OP that she was rude for not lending the bride her necklace.
This Reddit user says OP is not at fault here and is right to point out the bride's entitlement
Grouchy-Maximum9527This commenter makes a very valid point
LadyGreyIcedTeaSee, reasonable brides do exist!
1001labmutt02You're in my bridal party to serve me in all ways, even spontaneous organ donations
bamf1701Key word is willingly
Zestyclose_Meeting_8This one line easily summarizes everything
TappingTheKeysAre you with Reddit on this one? Or did you think OP could have avoided all of this if she just gave in to the bride's demands?
It's one thing to ask your friend to support and help you on your wedding day. It's an entirely different ball game when you demand they remove jewelries and other things they're wearing to make you the center of attention.
You would think a bride has something better to do on her wedding day other than worrying about her bridesmaids necklace. Apparently not.
What do you think about this wedding day fiasco? Are you team bride or team bridesmaid?
