Fan Theory About Pixar Film 'Ratatouille' Brings New Meaning To The Films Big Moment
If you've ever wondered what made this big moment in Ratatouille so special this fan theory will explain it all for you.

Everyone knows that Pixar has a habit of referencing its own characters in other films. For example; The moment in Toy Story when Mr. Potato Head reads A Bugs Life book, Finding Nemo hid a Buzz Lightyear figurine in the Dentists Office and even in Brave they creatively hid a carving of Sulley from Monsters Inc. in the witches shack! So what did they hide in Ratatouille?
There's a scene in the movie where Remmy is scared by the shadow of an excitable dog, a dog we all know and love, Dug the talking dog from the movie UP!
But that isn't what all this fuss is about. An Imgur user by the name of ManImgurUsernamesAreDifficultToThinkOf came up with a theory about why Ego loves Remy's Food so much.
Read below to find out what it is!
Ego and Remy:
This theory ties together two characters that everything assumed had no relation, Ego the Food Critic and The Old Woman from the start of the film, who's house Remy sneaks into.Disney Pixar
The movies First BIG scene
We're inside an old woman's house in the countryside and we see some certain items that turn out to be very distinctive, and important! Some of these include her teapot, stove handles, and jars.Disney Pixar/ Imgur
That's not all!
We also see her curtains, sink faucet, and fruit bowl... Ordinary items, right? Just wait.Disney Pixar/ Imgur
We see these items more than once:
These are seen again in the super important scene where Ego tastes Remy's food and it throws him into a flashback of his mother cooking for him as a child.Disney Pixar/ Imgur
But WAIT. There's more.
It's not just the kitchens that are a match. Here is another view of the house. Notice the chair and the fireplace...Disney Pixar/ Imgur
Flashback...
And here they are again the flashback! Of course there are slight changes to them to show the passing of time, like the stack of books on the chair, but otherwise, they match!Disney Pixar/ Imgur
SO, in theory:
According to this theory, these similarities make the old woman Ego's mother! The timeline is that Ego grew up in this house with his mother cooking for him, grew up and moved away, and Remy then broke in to follow his passion for food, meaning he watched Ego's mother make the same meals she made for Ego.Disney Pixar/ Giphy
Which means...
This amazing dish was certain to blow Ego's mind. Why?Disney Pixar/ Giphy
It wasn't just 'made like mother's'
The recipe Remy used to cook Ratatouille wasn't just that home-style food that makes you think of meals your mum made. It was literally Ego's mother's recipe!Disney Pixar
