The Macomb County Animal Control based in Michigan received a not-so-typical call from a concerned citizen. This caller discovered a young raccoon with its head stuck in a sewer cover.
Three deputies responded and headed to the scene. They eventually found the raccoon in a painful position. According to Macomb County Animal Control chief Jeff Randazzo, the poor creature was getting out of the grate, but his head got stuck.
During the rescue operation, the deputies had to remove the plate and transfer it to the ground. Fearing that cutting would generate heat on the cast iron, they decided not to cut the creature out.
The deputies concluded that the only method of freeing the young raccoon was to get his head out from the direction he got in. So they knocked on a door of a nearby residence to borrow some peanut oil.
It seemed that the raccoon knew that he was being rescued when the deputies poured some oil on his neck. They gently twisted and pulled the head, and after 20 minutes, the little guy was finally freed from his predicament.
MACOMB COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROLThe team brought the raccoon for a de-worming and vaccination to the animal control to ensure that he was okay. They observed him for two days and finally released him to the place where he was initially found.
MACOMB COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROLIn the same week, another raccoon had to be rescued.
The animal control team had to save different raccoon whose head got stuck in a soup can. Since people are at home more often, they would see these animals in a bad situation and call the animal rescue.
People have been admiring the sights of wildlife in the neighborhood more than ever, according to Randazzo. Of course, they are eager to help when they see one in trouble. And this is something that wild animals will surely be thankful for.
