"This Dog Is A Menace" - Man Cries Out As His Marriage Is Ruined Because He Wants To Put Down His Wife's Badly Behaved Dog
"We’ve been fighting constantly for the better part of a week"

An advanced disease, severe trauma, or even "just" old age can drastically lower a dog's quality of life. When the animal cannot be able to walk, is experiencing excruciating agony or suffering, refuses or is unable to eat or drink, or can't engage in activities they used to like, they can be put down.
Most dog owners find it intolerable to watch their cherished companions suffer in this way and would much rather see them go peacefully, dignifiedly, and painlessly. So, ending a dog's agony and suffering is the most frequent cause for individuals to put their pets to death.
The OP of today's story believes that it's time to put down his wife’s dog, Arlo. According to the OP, Arlo is at least 14 years old, but there’s no way to know for sure because Arlo was a rescue when he got adopted 10 years ago.
OP says that the dog is a menace as he refuses to pee or poop outside; instead, Arlo has filled their basement with his excrement. Also, Arlo breaks at least one dish a day, trying to get human food.
The OP went ahead and listed so many things this dog has done and how much he's fed up. They took Arlo to the vet about a year ago for a checkup, and the vet said Arlo had a really bad periodontal disease.
Yet, his wife refused to put him down, and this is giving the OP a lot of concern.
The OP kicks off his story

They try so hard to put things out of the dog's reach

Arlo still has a lot of energy and no mobility issues

OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the AH:
I want my wife to put down her dog because the dog is a menace and it is ruining our lives. My wife wants to keep the dog and says I am being an ass hole for wanting to get rid of the dog. I told my wife that I would no longer help her take care of the dog.
As usual, the comments from other Redditors rolled in...

Ops solution is death while his wife chose diapers

They have both failed the dog

This is the consequence

They could have put in more effort

It can be linked to health issues

OP's mindset is to kill the dog

The post wasn't about an opinion difference

To put it briefly, dogs are typically put to sleep in order to end their suffering, stop them from harming other people, or, in the case of animal control, rescue organizations, or shelters, because they are frequently unable to find loving homes for them due to severe behavioral problems. Redditors say that OP's wife is right in her stance.
But then, you shouldn't let a dog ruin your life or your house either, so they just have to come up with a solution.
