He was near tears when he ran to the bedroom, rendered silent by The Silence.

The spooky season is upon us! The veil between this realm and others is at its thinnest tonight, so be wary of the creatures lurking in the dark!

Kidding! There are no such things unless we count the time a Redditor convinced his younger brother that an alien creature from Doctor Who existed.

When OP was 10, his 7-year-old brother figured out that he got scared easily. What followed was a series of hiding behind doors and things to catch OP unawares.

His brother yelled "Boo!" each time to freak OP out. His younger brother got so good at it that OP feared walking the halls of their house.

Their parents intervened a couple of years into the jumpscares. His brother, thankfully, listened to their parents but still spooked OP intermittently.

OP finally got an opportunity for revenge one night while they were watching Doctor Who. The show introduced a new monster called The Silence.

It was a gray alien in a three-piece suit. Each time a character looked away from The Silence, they forgot about it.

To help themselves remember the encounter, they put tally marks on their arms whenever they see a monster. In the second episode, a lone girl in an orphanage was looking out of the window.

When the lightning flashed, her face and arms were covered in tally marks. OP's brother was uneasy while they watched the episode.

OP asked their dad to pause the episode because he needed to go to the bathroom. It was a lie.

In the bathroom, OP grabbed a pen and scribbled tally marks all over his face and forearms. He returned to the living room and turned the lights on. His brother turned his head to look at him.

He was completely freaked out. He crawled back to their dad who asked what was wrong. He saw OP and burst into laughter. OP moved closer to his brother, scaring him even more.

OP's brother ran to his room while their dad yelled at their mom: OP finally returned his brother's many favors.

Another suggested using ink only visible under black light. If OP can pull this off, he will be the grand champion.

It was payback from all those years of jumpscares. OP got him good.

For the merry pranksters out there, here's another creepy idea. It only works if they have seen The Ring.

It would have been perfect if it happened during a thunderstorm! I bet OP's brother thought twice before scaring him again after that night.

If you look up the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who, you would understand how diabolical the suggestion was to combine it with The Silence. If you're planning to scare a beloved Whovian in your life or if you need a last-minute Halloween costume idea, you can't go wrong with scribbled-on tally marks, as OP proved.
