Up until semi-recently, photography seemed to be something that wasn’t done much outside professional use or for some really serious hobbyists. There is a lot of (expensive) equipment and concepts to learn, and the added cost and learning for photo editing software to really make the photos pop.

But with the rise and constant evolution of smartphones, photography has become accessible to essentially everyone. Some users may even consider themselves to be an expert in photography when they only use the camera on their newest smartphone.

Maybe it’s partly due to the shift in the accessibility of everyone having a camera on hand 24/7 that the art and skill of professional photography have lost some of its respect. With people regularly arguing over the costs professional photographers have set for their time and expertise, to common overgeneralized jokes at professional photographers’ expense.

Taking the power back, an Instagram account shares interesting, informational, and funny memes that all photographers can relate to. Along with the Instagram page, they’ve created a “photographerhumor” Discord server for photographers of all levels to chat and support each other. It is a perfect example of how a community should be - a collection of people from all walks of life coming together to joke around, offer advice and cheer each other on as they reach new milestones.
