Pharmacy Technician Fumes After His Sibling Revealed To His Girlfriend That He Is Not A Pharmacist As He Led Her To Believe

Lying about being a medical professional to get the prestige of a title you didn't earn is a morally questionable choice. Doling out medical advice when you are unqualified can put people's lives in danger.

A Redditor had enough of their brother pretending to be a pharmacist and called him out in front of his girlfriend. OP's brother is a pharmacy technician who masquerades as a pharmacist even at work.

He does his best to make people believe that he is a pharmacist. When asked what he does for a living, he will evasively answer with his standard, "I work in a pharmacy."

The only time he admits to being a pharmacy technician is when he is asked directly if he is a pharmacist. He technically never claims to be a licensed pharmacist, but he does not correct people & customers who assume that he is.

OP witnessed it firsthand when they visited him at work. A customer asked a question about their medication.

OP's brother responded with, "I'm not sure, let's find out." He is not allowed to answer those types of questions with anything other than telling a customer that he will get the pharmacist for them.

He dodges and evades to make people believe that he is a pharmacist. OP didn't think it bothered them so much until they met their brother's girlfriend for dinner.

Their brother's girlfriend kept reffering to him as a pharmacist

OP asked, "why do you keep calling him a pharmacist? He's a technician."

The dinner was awkward for the rest of the night

Later, their brother texted OP that they should have minded their own business. He said it wasn't his fault that people wrongly assume his profession. Was OP wrong to correct their brother's girlfriend?

If one patient takes one inaccurate medical advice from OP's brother it could put them in danger

Maybe he couldn't be bothered to correct his GF. It isn't his fault that she believed he is a pharmacist when he said he works in pharmacy. /s

He probably knows enough to be convincing, but actively evading questions to make people think you are a pharmacist is just wrong

He can spend a 8 years of his life earning that title he proudly pretends to have

If he is lying about one of the most basic facts about himself, it is safe to assume that he is not above lying about other things

I bet the pharmacist at his job wouldn't brush off this non-issue if OP chose to expose their brother

We can only imagine how vastly different their expertise are. Pharmacy techs are invaluable but they are not pharmacists.

Why get upset at OP if what he's doing is acceptable?

OP just set the record straight for him since he couldn't be bothered to correct people

His GF would notice eventually that he is not earning the salary pharmacists actually receive

If he gets caught pretending to be a pharmacist, he can lose his license and career.

If he loses his job and license because of this, what job could he pretend to have next? For someone working in the medical field, you would think OP's brother would know the ramifications of giving out inaccurate medical advice.

OP was voted not the a**hole by the subreddit users. We so badly want to know how if OP's brother and his girlfriend are still together after his deception.
