This protective medical device used to prevent pets from licking or biting their wounds until they heal has many names; Elizabethan collar, Buster collar, pet cone.. It doesn’t really matter what you call it; it looks funny every time. No animal in history wore this cone and didn’t look silly. 

And because our pets are extremely funny while wearing them, it earned many nicknames – the pet radar dish, the pet lamp, the cone of shame. We have collected some of the funniest photos of pets wearing these... funny contraptions and we are known you are going to love them all.

These collars got their name after the ruffs worn in the Elizabethan era, and the first patent in the U.S. was filed by Frank L. Johnson back in 1959. The vets typically advise them to stop the pet from aggravating a wound or taking off stitches while self-grooming. Their purpose is to prevent them from biting their wounds and scratching their heads, eyes, and ears with their back legs…

It is also sometimes used to prevent animals with self-destructing habits from harming themselves. It can also prevent the animal from consuming any of the medication that's applied to its skin.

Despite their frequent use, relatively little is understood about the impacts of these collars. One survey discovered that 77.4% of their pet owners reported more reduced quality of life in their animal friends while they had the collar on.

This was mostly because of how the collar obstructed the pet's ability to drink, eat, play, and caused frustration. So, vets advise pet owners to do their research when selecting the right model for their little friend.
