Giving in to what children want once in a while doesn't equate to spoiling them. On the contrary, it can be an important aspect of fostering a healthy parent-child relationship.

When parents occasionally grant their children's wishes, it shows that they value their feelings and opinions, promoting a sense of trust and understanding between them. It also allows children to learn about negotiation, compromise, and the concept of delayed gratification.

So, in this situation we'll look at today, you can't consider the little girl a spoiled brat. Unfortunately, a stranger sees her that way.

Over at the "Am I The A**hole?" (AITA) subreddit, a young woman asked the community about the confrontation that happened between her and a stranger. According to the original poster (OP), she and her niece went to the grocery store.

When she picked up the yogurt that her niece normally eats, the little girl suddenly became excited over seeing a Disney-branded yogurt featuring Elsa. The OP told her niece that she would buy it as long as her niece would try it.

Suddenly, a stranger who happened to hear their conversation mumbled something. The OP clearly heard her say, "spoiled brat."

The OP couldn't let this past, even if she's not the confrontational type, and asked the older woman what she meant by her comment. She continued to confront the woman despite walking away from them.

After the whole thing, she wondered if she made the remark a big deal.

Thinking back at what happened, the OP partly regrets confronting the woman. But she couldn't let it slide because her niece isn't a spoiled brat at all.

The next time the OP encounters this lady, maybe she should say something around the lines of what these users have suggested.

People who mind their business are everywhere, sadly. Not just those who shop at Costco.

The kid is far from being a spoiled brat. No whining and tantrums involved when she asked for the yogurt with Elsa.

People who aren't ready to be confronted shouldn't say such things in front of the person they're criticizing.

The poor little girl didn't deserve that judgment. It's probably why the OP was so worked up about it.

She does sound miserable if she's being like this toward an innocent child.

People get offended for the weirdest reasons nowadays.

The stranger knows nothing about the OP's niece. Their judgment of the little girl is baseless.

People who don't know how to mind their own business should also be prepared to be criticized for their unnecessary comments. So, if this stranger didn't want to be confronted, she shouldn't have uttered words that would hurt an innocent girl.

We hope the OP taught this woman a lesson.
