10-Year-Old Niece Scolded Her Grandparents After Finding Out That They Purposely Don't Invite Her Gay Uncle To Christmas Gatherings
Kids can be brutally honest and they spare no mercy when they decide to confront you with the truth. They have less filter and sometimes it’s very much not prompted.

They’ll leave you speechless and unfortunately, their parents are the bear the brunt of their candidness. Getting blamed for encouraging their kids’ honesty.
Have you ever been called out and scolded by a kid? If not then this story from a Redditor under the subreddit ‘AITAH’ can give you an idea.
OP has been disowned by his parents for being gay and hasn’t had contact with them for about eight years. Despite this, he has remained close with his sister and niece.
It was a tradition of his parents to hold Christmas gatherings wherein he wasn’t always invited but his sister and niece still attend it. He doesn’t miss out on celebrating Christmas though, because after a day or two he, his sister, and niece have a small gathering.
His niece has always been curious about why he kept missing out on his parents’ Christmas event for years and she took it upon herself to ask him. When she shot the question, he gave her the same excuse that he used which was, he had to work.
This is the original post under the subreddit
OP described his relationship with his family
It's celebrating Christmas with people who truly matter
His niece figured out that his excuse didn’t add up since she knew he had his day off during Christmas.
She eventually got upset by his lie and asked sadly if the actual reason for his absence was because he didn’t want to be with them.
OP wouldn’t have said anything if she didn’t ask that, so in his calmest voice, he explained how his parents don’t agree with who he is and so they asked him not to go to their gatherings.
His niece became upset and the next day scolded her grandparents for what they did.
OP’s parents came at his sister for letting his niece keep in touch with him.
They yelled at her and OP’s sister told him he shouldn’t have told his niece anything so it would’ve prevented the family fight.
Let’s start with how wrong it is for your sister to call you an a**hole like you wanted to cause the fight in the first place
Take note that the way OP explained it to his niece and the way he worded it was something that she wouldn’t misunderstand as hate
Their parents took out their anger on his sister while his sister blamed him but had the audacity to say he put his niece in the middle of a fight
The parents might've caught her sister in a long running lie
The amount of Christmas gatherings she must've smiled through
It could've been a team effort and they would've still gotten more out of the parents
OP's niece has incredible confidence and a good moral compass
It's not everyday that you see 10-year-old kids tell adults what's right and wrong
The fight, if ever the niece would find out about it, should be explained to her so she wouldn't feel like it's her fault
OP did a great job approaching the subject when his niece asked
They learn what you teach them in black and white unless explained
It was straightforward without directly hitting on other issues
Maybe her mother can learn a thing or two from her
Hopefully she never will learn the kind of hatred her grandparents have
Their attitudes are simply what you see is what you get
He didn't even revealed that he wasn't in contact with them either
God forid someone would interrupt their path of offending other people
Their ways are what's important for them and anyone who does otherwise is sinful
Even if that 'otherwise' means just being yourself
They didn't even have to fight with OP and his sister but of course they have to exert their 'power'
OP doesn't have the obligation to keep up their reputation when they disowned their own son
a continuation
Again, his niece have the bravery that his sister doesn't
OP also didn't take part in enabling lying to his niece and didn't want her to know that her company isn't wanted
A judgement on all who are involved in this story
We hope OP's niece would always be by his side to help defend him from their judgement
It was only a continuation of a fight not a start of one
OP didn't do anything that would purposely damage his sister's relationship with their parents. Even if they did disown him for his preference of partners.
Both his sister and parents should take after what his niece did. She called out the wrong and was smart enough to understand that it wasn't tolerable.
Do you think OP should've told his niece what he did or should've lied? Let us know in the comments.
