All children deserve to be loved by their parents. Sadly, not all parents can provide the love and care that their children need.
We would even go as far as to say they don't deserve to be called parents. These people just don't know the long-term emotional scar their negligence can affect children.
The poor little ones will eventually grow up to be adults who have low self-esteem and wonder why they were never worthy of their parents' love. They may struggle with forming healthy relationships, trusting others, and experiencing genuine love and affection.
But believe it or not, there are some kids who take charge of their lives even at an early age. Take this one young Redditor as an example.
According to the user, when he and his sibling were just little kids, their mom would leave them at home and drink with the neighbors. This kind of life continued until their dad was able to save up for an apartment.
And so the siblings moved in with their dad. Their mom promised to visit them, but she never did.
The two kids kept getting disappointed to the point that they felt that something was wrong with them. Finally, the young Redditor decided to cut his mom off their life.
He texted his mom, saying that he won't contact her anymore. And now, he wants to know if he's the a-hole for doing so.
A young Redditor, who's living a happy life without his mom, wanted to know if cutting her off his life was wrong.
He asked the members of the "Am I The A**hole?" (AITA) subreddit for their thoughts.
RedditThe original poster (OP) shares how irresponsible his mom is.
She would even leave her kids at home just to go on a drink with the neighbors.
RedditEventually. the OP and his sibling moved in with their dad.
RedditThe mother's negligence made the OP and his sibling think that it's their fault.
He was sick and tired of his mom's broken promises. So he made an ultimate decision—cut her off from his life.
And he's happy that he did. Even though his brother is upset about what he did, he still thinks made the best decision.
RedditIf your mom does drugs and is alcoholic, then you don't really need to put up with all of that, especially when you're still young.
RedditWhy give her another chance when she messed up in every single chance she got?
RedditA concerned user suggested a subreddit that might help the OP deal with his situation.
RedditHe took charge of his life by removing the person who gave him constant pain. He did a good job.
RedditThe OP can never be the a-hole in such a situation. And there's only one person who's in the wrong: his mother.
Neglecting children is already considered child abuse. So what the OP did is like escaping from an abuser.
And if she still does drugs and is an alcoholic, who knows what she could do? The young man did his best to protect himself and his brother from harm and further emotional damage.
