Reunions are the best events to do a little reminiscing. It's not just old flames that get rekindled, old wounds could resurface and hurt anew.
It happened to a Redditor when he attended his 10-year high school reunion. Sean, one of OP's classmates, was known to be a class clown.
OP didn't find Sean's sense of humor amusing. He made jokes at the expense of others, and one of his favorite targets was OP's friend group.
Sean wasn't a bully but wasn't a good person back then. In one of their classes, Sean spent an hour trying to derail the class.
Their teacher, Mr. C, tried to dissuade Sean multiple times from further interrupting their discussion. He told their teacher, "Oh, come on, Mr. C, you're making a fool of me."
"Well, that's not hard to do," said young OP under his breath. He didn't say it quietly enough because all of their classmates heard during a rare moment of silence.
They reacted like teenagers and "Oooooh" -ed at OP's snarky retort. Mr. C got everyone's attention, and the incident was not brought up again.
During their reunion, they spoke of Mr. C, who has since passed. They recalled the incident between OP and Sean, which the latter overheard.
Sean excused himself and went to the bathroom after the issue was brought up. He later approached OP and demanded an apology.
u/Goaliedude3919OP said he would if Sean led by example and apologized to everyone he made fun of. Sean walked away from OP and spent the night with a sour disposition.
u/Goaliedude3919OP talked to his friends about what happened and they were torn if OP should have apologized or not.
u/Goaliedude3919OP said if Sean approached him nicely, he probably would have apologized. He didn't like how Sean felt entitled to one when he never once showed remorse for putting their classmates down during high school.
u/Goaliedude3919Did Sean's life take a drastic turn after that day for him to still be smarting from OP's comment?
Arkymorgan1066, Goaliedude3919Do you think Sean wakes up at 2 a.m. with the memory of being dissed in class?
RandomCoffeeThoughtsOP's snarky comeback made rounds because they didn't have a large graduating class. However, it didn't really change Sean's behavior.
Goaliedude3919, RandomCoffeeThoughtsA commenter said OP and Sean were both wrong for dwelling in the past.
Agreeable-Search-636OP said he didn't live in the past. He just thought Sean was rude for demanding an apology years later.
Goaliedude3919Why can't he apologize to everyone he made the butt of his jokes first?
MamaForTheLoveNot even a good clown at that.
YankeeRose464It probably made a mark because it was one of the few times that Sean got a taste of his own medicine.
hdhxuxufxufufiffifIf he still wants an apology, here's one OP could use.
Clean-Patient-8809Everyone he made fun of was probably waiting for someone to turn Sean's sense of humor against him. It's why they remembered OP's reply 10 years later.
OP was voted not the jerk. They didn't think that he owed Sean an apology, especially when it became clear that he hadn't become a better person over time.
