As you can already tell, today's story is all about a mean boss, and the OP just had to get her petty revenge. The OP was unexpectedly laid off from her job, and she had been at the job for several months.

The boss had lied to her about the pay when she initially interviewed for the job, and she was young and foolishly didn’t get the salary information in writing. It was a really small company, and there was no one to complain to about being cheated salary-wise.

After being fired, the OP tried to get unemployment, but her boss contested it. You must be unemployed for no personal reason in order to be eligible for unemployment benefits.

Unemployment benefits are available to employees who are let go for financial reasons. However, workers who are let go aren't necessarily immediately qualified for unemployment benefits.

Depending on the grounds for the employee's termination, Unemployment benefits are awarded to terminated employees in accordance with state law. In general, benefits are not available to an employee who is fired for grave misbehavior, either permanently or for a limited amount of time.

The OP did nothing yet her ex-boss wouldn't let her benefit from it. A thought came to the OP's mind one day and she decided to implement it.

In New York the company can say they fired you for cause, and then Unemployment automatically denies benefits. You have to appeal.

I hadn’t done anything to be fired, I contested the decision and he never showed up to the Administrative Law Hearing, so I won my Unemployment benefits by default.
