Mario Kart Pro Regrets Winning Streak After His Friend Confessed To Using Their Bets To Get Out Of The Friendzone

It was as if a Blooper covered a gamer's vision when he failed to pick up the hints his friend dropped like banana skins during their "friendly" tournaments of Mario Kart. These races started years ago when OP and his friend were younger.

They bet on their games where the winner could do or ask of anything to the loser. OP's friend had no idea he was a pro at Mario Kart.

He easily won the races and asked for harmless stuff. He asked her to talk like Wario during their next race or borrow DVDs from her collection.

OP's amusement over the wagers grew as he easily maintained his undefeated streak. OP felt like a king after every triumph as he basked in the glow of all the free stuff he won from his friend.

He got more and more pompous after winning and gloated to her face. Still, his friend continued to compete with him, although her frustration grew from losing every game.

OP was not a humble winner. He bragged about his wins to their friends and celebrated all the invisible trophies he had won with imaginary champagne pops.

Many years later, the same friend confessed to OP why she relentlessly bet on their Mario Karts despite the never-ending losses. She told OP how much she practiced before playing the game with him, only to lose in the end.

His friend wanted to win so badly because she wanted to ask OP to kiss her.

When that grew more improbable after every loss, she had hoped OP would ask her to kiss him instead.

OP said he was obtuse. He kept his requests tame and only asked for her Linkin Park albums. He regretted every buff kitten with a sleeve tattoo he made her draw. OP won all the battles but lost the war.

True to their reputation, Redditors focused on asking the most important question. But OP didn't respond to the request for buff cartoon kitten tax.

Soon enough, they moved on to making fun of OP's teenage self for missing all the signs.

OP was hit by the green shell he deployed. He didn't know there was another game to be won.

Others felt that OP's friend should have been more direct about her feelings.

She put too much stock on her Mario Kart skills. She should have thought of a new approach when OP kept winning.

Also, OP shouldn't be faulted for keeping his requests tame. He would have come across as a creep if he asked for anything physical over a Mario Kart bet.

Some suspected that even if his friend won, she wouldn't have the guts to ask OP for a kiss.

They also had a feeling that she could still be attracted to OP after all these years. Why else would she bring it up?

It wasn't a complete defeat after all. OP still has that glory to keep him warm at night.

A little guidance from Lakitu would have been nice. Unfortunately, OP was too focused on proving his skills and winning bets to realize what his friend hinted at.

OP was right. His timely use of the "spiky blue shell of doom" all but destroyed his friend's dreams of kissing him and with it, OP's chances at winning anything more than her Linkin Park albums.
