Man Refuses To Help His Coworker With A Mountain Of Work As She Has An Uncanny Habit Of Skipping Out On The Busiest Days
"Hey! We got a TON of tickets last night. Let's get to work gang!"

While managing a lot of work can be admirable, there is stress and burnout to think about. When one has more duties than they can reasonably perform in a given capacity, it is said that they are carrying a heavy workload.
It could be the consequence of a company aiming to cut costs, but it could also emerge from the way a person handles or delegates work. In this case, it's actually from the person handling the work.
The OP works at an online help desk for a program used by companies across the country, but he has a problem with one of his co-workers. This coworker has an uncanny habit of skipping out on what is well-known by everyone to be our busiest days ahead of time.
And when she does work, she works at a snail's pace and is slow to tackle any ticket that comes in. It got to the extent that this coworker decided to go to the gym daily during normal work hours, then stay late during the evening to make up for it.
But then, she still didn't get anything done and expected the team to work on the tickets that came during her work hours. Of course, the OP refused to oblige and told her to work it for three hours before he could help with any tickets that were left.

OP asks:

And the story begins proper

Linda skips work on the busiest days

Linda also works at the pace of a snail

Our boss expects us to tackle tickets as fast as possible

My phone buzz a lot when I'm off work

The tickets are your responsibility not ours

The OP did stay true to his words

Here are a bunch of the topmost comments from Redditors...
Linda is riding the favoritism wave

Only one of us is in the best position to do something

Linda should have addressed some of those tickets

This Redditor advices the OP to search for a new work

Your boss needs to deal with Linda

Take the notifications off your phone

Linda and your employer have created a slippery slope

Be prepared for some fallout over this

She sounds like dead weight to this Redditor

Keep the boss updated on work flow

Get your resume updated

It needs to be brought up with them

What is Linda doing at work if she's not doing any work

Whatever you're doing is incidental

There are more productive ways to handle this situation

You have a coworker who doesn't do her share

They may discover the pattern of Linda not doing her job

It might be time to start looking for a new job

Linda might try to throw you under the bus

Bridges have now been damaged and burnt from both ends with the OP's manager, Linda, and the other coworker. The OP has been advised to keep a file of potential retaliation for HR but be aware that being disciplined over not helping Linda is not retaliation.
You too can drop your advice for the OP in the comments below and share this post as well.
