Being a teenager can be tough, especially when your relationship with your parents isn't the best. Recently, Reddit user u/Throwaway223648 shared a story in the AITA (Am I The A**hole?) subreddit about some issues he's been having with his parents, and to say he didn't receive the response he was hoping for is an understatement.
The OP explained that it all started when his mom and dad were still together. The 17-year-old says his dad had a bad gambling addiction and expected his mom to do everything around the house.
The OP says his father drank a lot and didn't pay any of the bills but always managed to blame any problems on his wife. When they got divorced, OP's dad kept the house but still blames his ex-wife for leaving him in debt.
When the OP's sisters moved out of the house, his dad blamed his mom for that as well, saying she manipulated them to move out by telling them lies. The OP says his dad and grandparents have always made up stories about him as well, which has led to him pushing away the people who love him the most.
Fast forward a little, and the OP's dad is now remarried. The OP says his stepmom has had a positive influence on him in many ways but that she and his dad treat him like a child.
The OP isn't allowed to have a phone and doesn't have many friends because his dad and stepmom won't allow him to go out in other people's cars. The OP says they are overly strict and will ground him at any opportunity.
The Redditor says his dad and stepmom are treating his mental health like a "game for attention," and he's had enough. So much so that the OP says he wants to make his dad and stepmom get a divorce to teach them a lesson.
Now, he's wondering if meddling in his parents' marriage would be crossing a line. Keep scrolling to see how people reacted.
