The expression "I have feelings for you" might refer to a variety of emotions, but the eager heart interprets it as an enthusiastic promise of love that will always be reciprocated. But the distinction between having feelings for someone and being in love with them is problematic.
But what happens when someone you're having feelings for is someone who rejects the advances of your very good friend? You see, when we don't trust ourselves, or we're afraid of failing the ones who matter most to us, we tend to shrug off someone's old feelings.
Our apprehensions are extremely real and basic when it comes to love, but they must be handled with candor and openness, and this extends to the words we use to describe ourselves to others we care about. Meet u/FrankMiller, the original poster of today's story.
He shares how he's about to lose two of his close friends because of the woman he has developed feelings for. This woman's name is Lisa, and one of the OP's best friends, whom he has known since they were teenagers, also confessed a few months ago that he had feelings for this same Lisa but was turned down.
The other friend believes that it's a good reason to end the friendship, but the OP doesn't want that.
So the OP took to the r/relationship subreddit to seek for advice as he says:
Reddit/FrankMiller_Lisa agreed to meet and they got along really well, spending some time in the sun and just talking
Reddit/FrankMiller_One of the OP's best friends whom he has known since he was 14 also confessed a few months ago that he had feelings for Lisa
Reddit/FrankMiller_The OP also mentioned that the friend's relationship towards women has always been difficult and he has been disappointed many times
Reddit/FrankMiller_The OP clarified that this is now the second time of the essentially the same thing happening
Reddit/FrankMiller_He told the OP that he doesn't want to stand between them if things continue to go well
Reddit/FrankMiller_To summarize the whole story...
Reddit/FrankMiller_It's time to take a stroll through the comments and find out what advice Redditors have for the OP
Reddit/FrankMiller_This Redditor is wondering what is it about the relationship with Tim that is important
Reddit/FrankMiller_The OP's friend's issues with women aren't his to manage
Reddit/FrankMiller_For this Redditor, the OP already made his decision as they agree with the third guy
Reddit/FrankMiller_"If your friend is actively making your life worse, they aren't your friend"
Reddit/FrankMiller_Love can be complicated because it can be difficult when the person you love doesn't feel the same way about you or when they do, but your relationship doesn't work out. Because love can take many different forms, and you might not instantly know which kind you're experiencing, it can also make life more difficult.
We do hope the OP makes the best decision for himself.
