Dogs are the cutest pets ever, and they are also one of the most widely accepted pets in the world. Yet, not everyone allows dogs into their space, especially when the dog is not a service animal.

Restaurants, hotels, and many public places don’t allow dogs in, and their owners have to leave them outside before entering the establishment. However, dog restrictions do not only apply to public spaces.

Several residential neighborhoods strictly forbid any form of pets, including dogs. These restrictions are typically distressing for dog owners because no one wants to be without their beloved pet, so they must talk with their landlords before renting or leasing an apartment.

We found one Redditor on the r/JUSTNOMIL subreddit who imagined that her boyfriend’s mother, who also doubles as her landlord, wouldn’t mind her and her boyfriend getting a dog, only to be met with a huge twist.

OP shared that she lives with her boyfriend in a home owned by his parents, and the home was huge enough to have animals, so they decided to get a dog. But first, they had to seek approval from OP's boyfriend's parents.

Given that OP's boyfriend's mother adored dogs, they thought this would be a piece of cake, but they still prepared a case for their future canine. Although the OP's boyfriend's father was supportive during the chat and his wife was skeptical, neither OP nor her boyfriend expected what would happen next.

OP’s boyfriend’s mother refused to allow them to get a dog. When OP and her boyfriend inquired about the reason, she gave multiple baseless reasons, leading OP to think she was only trying to rile them up for fun.

While OP tried to contain her anger regarding the situation, we’re not very sure she was successful in doing so. She, however, opted to share her story with other Redditors for multiple takes.

The commenters think there's more at play than OP can see. They claim that the mother, her boyfriend is only attempting to exert control over them and isn't genuinely bothered by the fact that they want a dog.

They advised OP and her boyfriend to stand their ground and resist her. One person even went as far as writing a script for OP’s boyfriend to say to his mother.

What do you advise OP to do? Let us know in the comments below!
