Jason Momoa has made it clear that he will remain Aquaman while at the same time teasing a possible involvement in the DC Universe in the future. During an interview with Variety, Momoa discussed his meeting with DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran and revealed that they talked about the actor's potential involvement in the DCU.
While he emphasized that he will always be connected to Arthur Curry, Momoa also mentioned that he is open to playing other characters. He stated, "I'll always be Aquaman. Ain't anyone coming in there and taking s*it. There might be some other characters, too. I can play other things, too. I can be funny and savage and charming.
Rumors have been circulating that Momoa will star in a live-action version of the intergalactic bounty hunter, Lobo. When asked by Variety about the speculation, Momoa declined to confirm the news, simply saying that he may be playing other characters in the future.
However, last November, the actor teased an upcoming DC project in an interview with CBR, saying that comic book fans would be delighted. Momoa is a known admirer of Lobo, having previously expressed his fondness for the cosmic anti-hero who first appeared in DC Comics' Omega Men #3 in 1983.
He further fueled the rumors when he posted on Instagram that he had a big announcement to make, mentioning Gunn, Safran, and Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav. There have been mixed reactions from DCU fans about Momoa joining a Lobo project, with some feeling sad and let down that he may no longer play Aquaman, while others see it as an upgrade.

RedditWhat would he be lying about here?
RedditIf Jason Momoa were to make the jump away from the DCU, it would be the latest in a series of major changes since October 2020, when James Gunn and Walter Safran took over DC Studios. First, Henry Cavill was removed from the Superman role, despite saying he would be returning as the Last Son of Krypton following his cameo in Black Adam.
Then, with Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam franchise also being canceled due to Warner Bros. executives not being pleased with Johnson's publicizing of Cavill's return, plus the box-office loss, DC Studios also dropped Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman 3.
Suppose Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is to be Momoa's last movie in the franchise. In that case, it will end his long-running tenure with the character, which began with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016 and continued with Justice League and Peacemaker.
Alongside Momoa in the upcoming Aquaman sequel will be Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman. Apart from the DCU, Momoa is also set to star in Fast X this year as the villainous Dante.

RedditThe movie industry is constantly changing, and actors take on different roles as part of that process. We can see this in the way that genres are now more diverse and in the way that actors are taking on roles that might have been considered out of the ordinary a few years ago.
At the same time, this change can be difficult for some people to adjust to. We may have grown up with certain expectations about what movie stars should look like or the kind of roles they should take on.
When that changes, it can be a difficult adjustment for us to make. We may be resistant to this change, or we may even feel betrayed if our favorite actor takes on a role that is completely different from what we expect.
What do you think about this change?
