That’s right, someone hit the jackpot, securing a life-changing sum of money. But here’s the twist—they never claimed their prize.

Fast-forward to October 2024, and the unthinkable happened: the prize expired. That’s right, they officially lost out on a cool million dollars—just like that.

What went wrong? Was it sheer forgetfulness? A misplaced ticket? Or perhaps they were blissfully unaware they’d even won in the first place? The answer, as it turns out, was due to one incredibly simple mistake. The ticket wasn’t registered.

According to Anna Hobdell, a Lotto spokesperson, if the mystery winner had registered their ticket to a player card or purchased it online, they would have been notified about their prize immediately.

In Queensland, for example, you get a generous seven years to claim your prize, while New South Wales and the ACT offer six years.
