Even if someone didn't intentionally exclude you, you can still feel offended by it. So yes, you can get hurt when you discover that you are not in the group chat that your friends created.
You can get annoyed when coworkers meet for coffee every morning without inviting you, or get hurt when your sister decides not to invite you to her wedding. The list goes on and on but regardless of the circumstances, you'll probably feel a wide range of complicated emotions.
It will be easier for you to absorb these emotions and make decisions if you take some time to explore them. The OP felt ostracized after she was left out from a vacation she arranged for her family at the last minute.
Mind you, the OP was super excited to be going on a vacation, despite having already started organizing things for her birthday. The OP is the eldest daughter and usually does all the research for family vacations.
They are a family of five, and as the “fifth” member, she was complicating bookings a lot, often requiring a third room. The OP didn't mind staying back as long as her family wouldn't miss her birthday, but her parents said they had sorted out their trip but that she's not coming.
The OP was super hurt by this, and she felt betrayed that they'd willingly leave her alone on her birthday. Keep scrolling to read the full story below.

Reddit/BeltProud8481OP has offered the following explanation for why they think they might be the AH:
The action I took was that I got angry and started an argument with my parents over my exclusion, which ruined the excitement for everyone regarding the trip. I think I may be the asshole as it's unfair to expect my family to go out of their way to invite me on the trip when it's so last minute and I'm 23 so no longer a dependent like my 17 year old siblings.

Reddit/BeltProud8481Getting left out is not enjoyable, but it's a typical human experience that can occur from time to time in one's life. It doesn't even have to be a close friend or family member as it also hurts when a stranger rejects us.
It's time for the OP to quit showing courtesy to those who don't return the favor, treat her like a nobody, and don't think about her feelings before acting selfishly. The OP was declared not the AH and that's a wrap!
