Husband Comments About Wife's Postpartum Body, Tells Her Best Friend To Mind Her Own Business When She Defends His Wife And Insults Him Back

A 22-year-old's patience was tested when she heard what her best friend's husband said about her postpartum body. OP's best friend, Jenny, and her husband, Tom, visited their apartment recently.

OP and her boyfriend met Jenny's newborn during that visit as well. She told the couple to bring swimwear so they could take a dip in the hot tub OP's parents got her for Christmas.

OP's boyfriend didn't join them. He set his sights on taking care of the baby while OP, Jenny, and Tom prepared for their dip in the hot tub.

Jenny was the last person to change out of her day clothes. She was in a bikini when she got out of the bathroom.

OP thought her best friend looked incredible — she looked happy and had a glow about her. Tom didn't share OP's sentiments.

He laughed and told his postpartum wife that she still had some weight to lose before she could look as good as she did before her pregnancy. OP was taken aback by Tom's cruel comment.

Jenny didn't bother replying to her husband's remark. OP watched her best friend's smile fade and mask her discomfort.

She and Jenny had plenty of discussions about her struggle with pregnancy-related weight gain. OP thought Tom's comment about his wife's body was beyond insensitive.

She got upset. She couldn't help but think about what Tom might be saying to Jenny behind closed doors if these were the things he willingly said in public.

"She just had a baby. What's your excuse?" OP pointedly asked Tom.

Tom didn't like OP's comment about his body. He told her to learn to take a joke and then angrily went to the hot tub.

Jenny laughed a little at OP's comment. Before they left, Tom told OP to keep her nose out of other people's business. Her boyfriend agreed with what Tom said and told OP she should have stayed out of their issues.

OP shouldn't have to be civil with someone who isn't above insulting his recently pregnant wife's body.

He involved OP in their business when he said those things in front of her.

If it was okay for him to "joke" about his wife's body, why was it terrible for OP to do the same with his?

OP also needs to remember how her boyfriend reacted to what Tom did.

OP did what everyone should do when they see someone being wronged.

OP would have been complicit in Tom's treatment of Jenny if she didn't speak up.

Tom needs to know that Jenny has people who will stick up for her no matter what. OP is first in line.

What OP did may just be what Jenny needs to see how horrible her husband has been to her.

OP shouldn't listen to her boyfriend. She did the right thing. Meddling isn't always bad, especially in a situation like this.

Right? What did Tom expect OP to do? Cower in fear?

Tom should feel ashamed for what he said to his wife. She had just given birth to their child, and all he could think about was that she wasn't losing weight quickly enough to please his eyes.

OP was right to call him out on the spot. It at least made Tom realize that there was something wrong with how he spoke to his wife.
