Nursing Mom Asks If She's Wrong For Telling Someone In Wheelchair To Wait Their Turn To Use The Handicap Bathroom

"The handicap stall is also the only stall that accommodates babies"

A type of dermatitis known as diaper rash appears as reddish spots on the thighs, buttocks, and genitals. Wet or dirty diapers that aren't changed frequently enough can be the cause.

Alternatively, chafing and sensitive skin could be the cause. Although it is most common in babies, it can affect anyone who often changes their diapers.

Simple at-home treatments for diaper rash, like air drying, changing diapers more frequently, and applying barrier creams or ointments, usually help in clearing it. But then, you can always avoid it entirely by changing your baby's diaper as soon as they mess it up.

The OP went on a family road trip with her kids. One of them is a 10-month-old who is very susceptible to diaper rash.

So when it was obvious that he had a dirty diaper, he pulled into a rest stop so that the OP could change his diaper. When she got to the women's bathroom, there was only one stall that had a changing table, and it was the handicapped stall.

The OP waited for it to be free, only for a woman in a wheelchair to come by. She asked the OP to wait for her to use the bathroom since she was in a wheelchair.

The OP declined while giving her own reasons, but their interaction bothered the OP so much that she had to come online to ask.

The OP added this info to clear up some things

Yes, I know you can change a baby's diaper virtually anywhere. Our car was honestly not a great option as it was packed full. I could have changed him in the front seat, but I also had to use the bathroom so it made more sense to simply go to the restroom and use the resources there.

My husband took our 3 year old to the restroom in the men's room. This is usually how we do it as 90% of the time there is no changing station for baby's in the men's restroom in the US

She did not express any urgency to me. Only that she should have the stall due to her disability. I know it's possible she was too embarrassed to tell me her urgency, this is something I will never know.

No I don't use cloth diapers but I will look into this if it is something that will really help his rashes!

Regular restrooms and stalls are not intended for use by individuals with impairments, which is why handicapped restrooms and stalls are provided. Just as the seats at the front of the bus aren't reserved for the elderly or the disabled, neither are they exclusively for them.

Redditors say that was the only stall either of them could use and the OP was there first. Eventually, she was declared not the AH.
